World’s SMALLEST mom’s pregnancy could crush her lungs and heart, but now a proud mom of 3

The world’s smallest mom claimed she was going to have three children no matter how hard it would be for her, even if it put her life at risk.

“We didn’t plan to have more than two kids, we just think that they’re a great gift to the world, and when I look at them I see Will and I feel so full of love, it’s tough not to want more.” Mrs. Herald said in a Telegraph report.

Stacey Herald, who is just 2ft 4ins (approximately 71 cm), from Dry Ridge, Kentucky, USA, suffers from a rare genetic condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta, which causes brittle bones and underdeveloped lungs, and stunts growth.

She was told that becoming pregnant could kill her because having a baby grow inside of her could crush her heart and lungs. But the proud mom defied the doctors to have her third baby at age 36. Her husband, Wil Herald, 27, is a trainee priest and stands at 5ft 9ins.

The couple met in 2000 and got married in 2004. They wanted to have children and establish a family, so when doctors warned Mrs. Herald not to risk having a baby, she became distressed.

“It broke my heart that I couldn’t have kids,” she said.

“All my life my parents had told me that I could do anything. Then there were these doctors telling me that we couldn’t be a complete family. It really hurt.”

Nevertheless, the couple still wanted to take the risk for children. Mrs. Herald became pregnant eight months later. They decided to carry on, despite concern from Mrs. Herald’s family and doctors.

“They all told me that I would die. They begged me not to have a baby. Even my mother said, ‘You know you won’t survive right?’”

“I told her: ‘It’s a miracle that I am here, that I have life, why couldn’t this be a miracle too?’”

Mrs. Herald successfully gave birth to two girls in the following two years. Their eldest daughter Kateri has inherited Mrs. Herald’s condition while the second daughter Makya is average sized.

The third baby was a boy, Malachi, who was born by a rare vertical caesarean and had to be placed in an incubator in intensive care. He suffered a life-threatening hernia and required surgery at four weeks.

“At one point they told us his heart had stopped and we thought he might not survive,” said Stacey in a Daily Mail report. “But thankfully the doctors managed to save him. It felt like a miracle to us.”

But once again, the little boy also inherited his mom’s condition.

“When we found out Malachi had my condition it was hard,” Mrs. Herald said. Yet she kept positive, saying: “But we knew we would be the best support possible for him because Kateri and I have both been there already.”

Going through all the difficulties and even risking her life, Mrs. Herald felt blessed and loved her children.

“All my babies are miracles,” she said.
